Day 11…Why ART?

Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.

I wish I wrote that.

I love the way it makes me feel.

The smell of the paint, markers, paper and glue.

I love when students say “Mrs. Murray is this my ART DAY!”

Art makes people happy.

There are no mistakes.

There are rules but no mistakes.

Next time we have a School Improvement Day, I’ll take every stressed out teacher and give them an hour of ” Purposeful Art”….and all will be well in their world.

Follow your art 🙂

  1. Well now. Here is one of my favorite quotes, “…go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”- Kurt Vonnegut. yes. yes. and yeeees. I’m so with you on the washing and the dusting off. To me, art is sacred, coming from a holy place of divine creativity. (dont make fun of me. I get carried away.) I love it. And I’m so thankful your colorful presence paints my world. (gah. don’t make fun of me! :))

  2. Well hello there, Yoda. I felt you around the other day, but hadn’t found you here just yet. Username perfection as per you. And now I have and so much to read. Art all day every day would be a dream of mine. I love “there are rules, but no mistakes” and “follow your art.” I miss having art with you everyday 🙂

      1. Same. I promise I haven’t seen any other art teachers though. NO other teachers at all. I’ve got the same void. I’m up to work here. 🙂
